Short version: this is free, it's information only, and it isn't an emergency service.
This is not professional advice
Foster Compass points you toward organizations that may be able to help. It is not medical care, legal advice, mental health treatment, or case management, and using it does not create any professional relationship.
If you are in immediate danger, call 911. If you are in crisis or thinking about hurting yourself, call or text 988. Those lines are staffed by people; this is a website.
We check things, and things still change
Every resource here has been confirmed by phone, and each one shows the date it was last checked. Organizations still change their hours, move, fill up, close intake, or shut down between our calls.
So we can't promise a place will have a bed, take your call, or say yes. What we can promise is that we didn't invent it: every phone number came from a record a person confirmed.
If something here is wrong, we want to know. It helps the next person.
Using the service
It's free. You don't need an account. You can use it as much as you want.
Don't use automated tools to hammer the service, and don't try to break it — it costs money to run and that money is meant to help young people.
Limitation of liability
The service is provided as is, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty of accuracy, availability, or fitness for a particular purpose.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Foster Compass is not liable for any loss or damage arising from use of the service or from reliance on information it provides, including the availability, eligibility criteria, conduct, or quality of any third-party organization listed.
Listed organizations are independent. Listing one is not an endorsement, and we have no control over what they do.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina.
